Welshpool Hospital is a cottage hospital located 10 minutes from our practice. We visit daily to provide care for our own patients that are admitted to the 21 bed ward and attend the weekly MDT meetings. There is an X-ray department, a birthing unit, a consultant led satellite renal dialysis unit and a minor injury unit on site. We have no clinical input into these units. There are also various outpatients clinics held at the hospital with visiting consultants and specialized nurses. The CMHT is housed in Bryntirion which is located adjacent to the hospital. We feel that attending to our rehab and palliative care patients on the ward as well as enabling patients to die with dignity at home is a very important part of our job.
We provide clinical cover on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the patients on Brynheulog ward in Newtown Hospital. Brynheulog is a specialized stroke rehab unit and a minimum of 5 out of the total 15 beds are allocated for stroke patients from all over the county. The other beds are for rehabilitation and palliative care. We attend an MDT here every Wednesday and enjoy working and learning along side the specialist therapists there. Newtown Hospital also has outpatient clinic with visiting consultants who are always happy to discuss any queries and an Xray department.
